The Great Blue Hole in Belize is a natural sinkhole off the coast of Belize. To be precise, it is sixty-two miles off the coast of Belize City.  It is 940 feet all the way across and 410 feet deep. The Great Blue Hole also has a robust marine ecosystem with many marine animals such as giant groupers which is a type of fish, nurse sharks, and many species of reef sharks. As you go further down into the hole, you can see that it is made up of many underwater caverns. From the outside, it has a stark contrast compared to the rest of the water around it, which makes it visible from outer space. Since this hole wasn’t man-made, it started forming around seventy million years ago. It is considered the biggest hole of its kind. All of these factors make it one of the top ten diving sites in the world, also, it is a great tourist attraction that brings money to Belize’s economy, so it is an important attraction for Belize.
